The
study intended to have an empirical data on the impact of COVID-19 Pandemic and
subsequent national lockdown on the migrant workers (in migrants and return
migrants) in Tirunelveli, Tenkasi and Virdhu Nagar districts of Tamil Nadu. The
study adopted a mixed-methods approach of quantitative survey and qualitative
research and covered a sample size of 484 migrant workers.
The
broader objective was to have an overview of livelihood among migrant labours
and responsibility of their employers towards them in destination states/areas.
And, to highlight the state response mechanism and specific demands to state
and union governments to improve conditions of the migrant labours and to take
concrete measures to be taken in this regard.
